Red Cheek
The week Calum went back to daycare, after his sick week, we
had an odd occurrence. I went to pick him up one day and they commented on his
right cheek being red. I really didn’t think much of it, until it just didn’t
go away. It actually got worse. His left cheek wasn’t red, just the right. It
got redder as the night went on. It wasn’t warm. He didn’t have a fever either.
By that evening, he was getting splotchy red spots around his left eye. It was
odd. I was worried he was having a reaction to something. I started googling,
but came up with a bunch of random things, including teething and fifth’s
disease.
The next morning… it was gone! We haven’t seen it again. So
odd!
New Ride!
On January 19th, Damon and I decided to go
vehicle shopping. Yes, it was my idea. We had been talking about it for a
while, so we just decided to go look. I really wanted Damon to get the new
vehicle, because his little red truck is so much older than my Jeep, but he
insisted I got it, since I was driving Calum around on most days.
We weren’t going to buy anything that day, but somehow we
did! We also spent way more money than we said we were going to! We reasoned
that we would just keep this vehicle for a very long while and make it worth
our money.
We bought a 2011 Ford Expedition. I love it! It only had a
little over 12,000 miles on it. It wasn’t even listed exactly. We saw it as we
drove around the lot. It was being used by the owner of Townsend Ford. An old
man, who had a driver! Apparently he always has a black and tan Expedition. He
uses it for so many miles and then upgrades to a newer model. I guess he was
ready to upgrade on the day we were there, because he said we could buy it if
we wanted it. It looks brand new on the inside and outside. I never imagined
having such a nice vehicle!
So sick!
Sooo… Calum’s cold symptoms continued and never seemed to
let up. He started running a temperature. Tylenol would bring it down, but it
would just creep back up. That Sunday night (1/20), after he went to the doctor
on Friday, I called the pediatrician. Of course, I spoke to a nurse because
their office was closed. Calum was really feeling poorly and the congestion
seemed worse. I wanted to know if a trip to the ER would be a good idea. I
thought perhaps he might need a breathing treatment or something. Well, the
nurse told me to just keep him home, and unless his temp got to 105 he’d be
fine! 105?!?! Really?!?!
That Tuesday we finally gave up and went back to the pediatrician.
Calum had Bronchiolitis and Pneumonia! I had never heard of Bronchiolitis, just
Bronchitis. It’s something that causes swelling and mucus build up in the
smallest air passages of the lungs. It’s usually caused by RSV. My poor little
man had to have a chest X-ray and came home with an antibiotic and a liquid
medication to help his breathing.
He stayed out of daycare all that week, not going back until
January 28th. We were off that Monday. Damon kept him Tuesday and
Wednesday. Damon’s mom, Karen, kept him on Thursday, and then I took off work
and kept him that Friday. After all that time at home, I wasn’t ready for him
to go back to daycare.
I am so glad he is feeling better. He lost his appetite
there for a while and we were worried about him dehydrating. He also had
trouble keeping his milk down, I’m guessing from all the drainage going in his
tummy. When he started acting like our little wiggle worm again I was so happy!
Still Under the Weather
1/19/2013
Well, the fussiness has continued today and Calum is really
starting to look and act sick- no more energetic boy, so Calum got his first
dose of medicine today! I can’t stand to see him feeling so lousy, so hopefully
the medicine will help him feel a little better. I had to use a handy-dandy
nipple/paci medicine dispenser to get him to take the medicine. It worked like
a charm!
Here he is, snuggling with his Mama. I don’t ever rock Calum
to sleep. He goes down awake and falls asleep on his own; however, today this
is the only way I could get him to fall asleep. Such a sweet little man! He
snoozed on me for 2 hours, and I loved every second of it.
Sick Day
1/18/2013
Calum has been showing a few signs of sickness the past few
days, but nothing major. Last night his cough got worse and his nose started
running and he started sneezing a lot and was fussier than usual. We decided
this morning to take him to the doctor. His cough sounds horrible and we wanted
to make sure he didn’t have chest congestion or any ear issues. Perhaps it was
due to the weather causing school and work delays, but we were in and out in 25
minutes! Yea! He just has a bad cold. They didn’t give him any medicine, just
told us to treat him at home, as we had been. It’s not in his chest, and his
ears were clear, but he doesn’t feel well, so we stayed home and decided to
start our weekend early.
Snow!
Today, January 17, 2013, was Calum’s first snow day! We went
to work and daycare, but we got out early. Calum actually isn’t 100%. He
doesn’t have a fever and isn’t feeling badly, but he has a little bit of a
runny nose and a cough. I didn’t want him to spend time outside in the cold,
but I had to take a couple pictures of him on his first snow day, so we went
out for just a few seconds… literally. He was all bundled up in his camo
fleece. We ran out, took a couple pictures and back in we went. I loved the
snow, even though it didn’t last long.
Cereal
On
January 15th, Calum had his first bit of rice cereal. He, of course,
did not understand the spoon. He would try to suck on it. Almost all of the
cereal ended up on his face or bib. Maybe he got a little bit. We will just
have to work on it every now and then, until he grasps the idea of eating from
a spoon.
He cared more about the bowl than the food in it:
He was very content when he got his bottle at the end of it all:
